Issue Position: Promote Community Responsibility

My grandfather came from a generation that accomplished great things such as developing our transportation infrastructure, winning the second world war, and beating the great depression. Often noted as "the greatest generation," they built the strongest economy of the 20th century. His life consisted of hard work with a mix of blood, sweat, and tears. The challenges they faced during those times even surpasses our hardships faced today. If they could get through the depression and the worst war America has faced, we can get through this recession. A tough, independent spirit and self-made entrepreneurs built this city and this nation into a powerhouse. It honors those who built up the city we live in when we work hard and have the courage to take risks and invest in our own future. We need to preserve this spirit of individual accomplishment and cautiously consider whether government intervention, no matter how good it may sound, actually in most cases does more harm than good when it tries to get involved in the economy. Too many times it does not promote the most efficient nor the most popular solutions. Individuals working in a free market have given us everything from cars and smart phones to laptops and social networking sites. It is the hard work and ingenuity of independent indiviuals that will drive discovery and innovation in our economy and we need to make sure the government is not getting in their way. I will work to enable such people to succeed and not hold them back or weigh them down with excessive and harmful regulations.
